Pan-European Species directories Infrastructure (PESI)
The Marine Biological Association are currently involved in the PESI project which aims to standardise and harmonise taxonomic information systems across Europe and across the marine and terrestrial environments. WoRMS is the standard being used for the marine community, but part of the PESI work is to create and harmonise a UK species list with tagged taxonomic and additional information (protected status, biological traits etc) to the WoRMS list.
World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS)
The World Register of Marine Species is an online resource which aims to provide the most authoritative list of names of all marine species globally. WoRMS is now endorsed by the Healthy and Biologically Diverse Seas Evidence Group (HBDSEG), and all marine taxonomic data collected by UK government agencies are expected to be WoRMS compliant.
